When IIMA Ventures was founded, it began with a belief that entrepreneurship could be a powerful force for nation-building. Built at IIM Ahmedabad in 2002 as an entrepreneurship centre and incorporated in 2007-08 as a section 8 company, IIMA Ventures – was shaped by the Institute’s DNA and its deep commitment to creating impact beyond campus.
What started as an early effort to support entrepreneurs has today grown into an innovation continuum that works with startups, aspiring entrepreneurs and investors. At its core was a clear and ambitious vision to help grow India’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem by nurturing technology-enabled innovation in high-tech and mass-application areas, at IIMA and beyond.
From the very start, we chose a different path. While many academic incubators stay focused within their campus walls, we were built to be outward-facing. We wanted to serve the IIMA community, yes – but also to play a catalytic role in India’s larger startup ecosystem.
Those early years had no rulebook. India’s startup ecosystem was still finding its feet, and there were no set templates to follow. So we did what startups do, we experimented. We pivoted when needed, learned fast, and kept evolving to match what founders and the ecosystem needed.
Over time, we helped shape key firsts. We authored entrepreneurship bestsellers, incubated not only startups but also incubators and funds, launched the country’s first accelerator program, and became early seed investors. We introduced India’s first placement holiday program for students who wanted to build companies. We backed tough sectors through venture funds, moves that were not just new in India, but pioneering globally.
Across 15+ years, IIMA Ventures has grown into more than a Technology Business Incubator. Today, we are an interconnected innovation continuum, spanning incubation, acceleration, capital, and insights. Along the way, we’ve worked with founders taking on some of India’s hardest problems, from climate and mobility to agri supply chains and semiconductors, watching early ideas grow into real, scalable businesses.
India has come a long way too. We are now the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world. But one reality hasn’t changed enough: the earliest stage of building, especially in deeptech, is still the hardest. Capital is tough to access, the right connections are limited, and structured coaching is sparse.
That’s exactly where we come in.
We’re committing to be the birthplace of some of the most consequential companies in India. Building for consequential companies means staying true to the basics, supporting high-growth, technology-first startups, doubling down on 0-to-1 journeys, and being the first believers in bold founders. It means back founders early, when the question is bigger than the answers and conviction matters the most. It means ideas turn into real companies that just do not just scale, but solve meaningful problems and create lasting impact.
With sharper focus across capital, coaching, connections, and community, we’re ready to scale our impact and push our founding mission forward for the decade ahead.
